TORPEDO BAT âžď¸
New York Yankees hired a team of engineers to redesign the baseball bat - but is it legal?
The Yankees put on an absolute clinic against the Brewers, launching nine homers and racking up 16 hits in a 20-9 slugfest. But the big story wasnât just the offensive explosionâit was the bats they used to do it.
YES Networkâs Michael Kay revealed that some Yankees are swinging a newly designed bat that shifts more mass toward the barrel, resembling a âbowling pinâ shape.
The innovation, reportedly developed by Yankees analystsâincluding MIT physicist Aaron Leanhardtâaims to create more force at impact.
While itâs unclear how many Yankees are using them, Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Anthony Volpe were spotted wielding the so-called "torpedo" bats, and Cody Bellinger has praised their performance.
Michael Kay explains that the Yankees made new bats "where they moved a lot of the wood into the label so the harder part of the bat is going to strike the ball."

Despite the intrigue, the bats appear to be completely legal under MLB rules, which regulate length, thickness, and material but donât prohibit design tweaks like this. The key takeaway?
While these bats wonât automatically turn a routine swing into a home run, any small edge matters in baseball.
Yes, the Yankees have a literal genius MIT Physicist, Lenny (who is the man), on payroll. He invented the âTorpedoâ barrel. It brings more wood - and mass - to where you most often make contact as a hitter. The idea is to increase the number of âbarrelsâ and decrease misses.

Expect other teams to take noticeâbecause if thereâs one thing MLB hates, itâs letting the Yankees get an advantage.

OHTANI 50/50 CARD
Another jaw dropping baseball card valuation with Ohtaniâs 50/50 card at over $1,000,000 USD.
A Shohei Ohtani 1-of-1 autographed relic card from his historic 50/50 season has made waves, selling for a record $1.067 million at Heritage Auctions.
The card features the MLB logo from the pants he wore during his milestone 49th, 50th, and 51st home runs and 50th and 51st stolen bases against the Miami Marlins in September 2024.
This remarkable sale far surpassed his previous high of $533,140, but still fell short of the $1.1 million paid for Paul Skenes' MLB debut patch autograph, which remains the most expensive non-Mike Trout modern baseball card.
The card is part of a set created by Topps to commemorate Ohtaniâs 50/50 club achievement.
It features autographed relics, refractors, and Dynasty Black relic cards, with only three Dynasty Black cards in existence.
Each of these cards is a 1-of-1, and Ohtaniâs card, with both pants and batting gloves used in his historic game, now holds the title of the highest-priced Ohtani card ever sold.
This cardâs sale further highlights the growing market for elite collectibles, with many expecting even higher prices in the future.
