FIGHT RECAPS
Are you not entertained? Fans said no.
Jake Paul's showdown with Mike Tyson at AT&T Stadium became a spectacle of pageantry, nostalgia, and bitter disappointment for fans.
The lead-up to the fight was as dramatic as the match itself: Jake Paul and his brother Logan made an entrance that was both long and mesmerizing, easing the booing crowd into silence.
Paul, once a Disney Channel star turned internet provocateur, used his social media clout and controversy-filled brand to draw massive attention to the fight, promoted by his company Most Valuable Promotions in collaboration with Netflix.
Tyson, who returned to the ring after 19 years, embraced a grim acceptance of his own mortality in the days before the fight, hinting at his diminished but defiant spirit.
He remained stoic, dismissing press questions and focusing solely on fighting. But when fight night arrived, it became clear that the legend’s physical endurance had waned with age.
Fans, many draped in Tyson gear, cheered him on with hopes of seeing a return to "Iron Mike" form, but instead watched a labored performance from Tyson, paired with Paul’s own less-than-intense efforts.
The underwhelming match dragged on for eight short, two-minute rounds, lacking any real thrill or brutality, and ended with a unanimous victory for Paul. Fans who’d gathered to witness the comeback of their childhood hero were left feeling duped.
In the aftermath, the mood turned sour as disappointed attendees realized it was a calculated marketing ploy.
For fans, the bout felt like the ultimate form of clickbait—a bait-and-switch leveraging Tyson’s legacy to lure in viewers, only to deliver a sad performance that kept Paul’s divisive reputation intact.
This is one of those situations when you lost but still won. I’m grateful for last night. No regrets to get in ring one last time.
I almost died in June. Had 8 blood transfusions. Lost half my blood and 25lbs in hospital and had to fight to get healthy to fight so I won.

Jones dominates a one-sided fight vs. former two-time champ Stipe Miocic in the main event of UFC 309.
In a long-awaited showdown at Madison Square Garden, Jon Jones reaffirmed his claim as the greatest mixed martial artist of all time by delivering a dominant performance against Stipe Miocic, ending the fight with a third-round TKO.
This was Jones’ first defense of his UFC heavyweight title, which he won following a two-decade run of excellence and controversy at light heavyweight.
After the fight, Jones wasted no time addressing his future, brushing off retirement rumors and signaling his readiness to continue his reign.
UFC President Dana White hinted that Jones might face interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall next, with the possibility of a super-fight against light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira later down the line.
White praised Jones' dominance, noting that his 16-year unbeaten streak and transition to heavyweight make him “the best ever.”
COCK FIGHTING
Betting machines appear at cockpits as Filipinos continue to embrace the sport of Cock Fighting.
Cockfighting, or sabong, remains deeply embedded in Filipino culture, with roots stretching back centuries.
While widely criticized as cruel and banned in numerous countries - including the United States, it’s sustained in the Philippines due to its cultural resonance.
At Manila’s Dampalit Cockpit Arena, an unusual quiet now marks the beginning of matches. Pre-pandemic, the arena was buzzing with loud exchanges from kristos—betcallers who tracked wagers and used hand signals in the din of the arena.
Today, electronic betting machines have replaced much of this human interaction, a shift brought about by COVID-19 restrictions that required cockpit operators to minimize crowd engagement.
Yet, sabong persevered, adapting through hard times. During the pandemic, former president Rodrigo Duterte legalized e-sabong, an online cockfighting platform that allowed 24/7 betting.
Though technological changes have tempered the arena’s raucous environment, sabong endures as a cultural cornerstone in the Philippines.
